Meet our Student Researchers
Here are some of our current student researchers and what they have to say about their experience in the program.

Abbi Fickes, Spring 2007 Graduate, Animal Sciences
Project: A comparison of urinary hormone profiles with fecal extract hormone profiles of Equus ferrus przewalskii
"Through my research internship I made a lot of contacts and learned a lot more about reproductive sciences. I now intend to get a doctoral degree in that field will be doing my research at the same institution I did my Honors research."

Lara Gilligan, Spring 2007 Graduate, Animal Sciences
Project: Improving the Efficiency of Liquid Feed Use in Dairy Rations
"My Honors Project had some influence on my career goals because it got me to think more about mixed animal practice. I really enjoyed my work with dairy cows."

Sarah McCready, Spring 2007 Graduate, Animal Sciences
Project: Evaluating a Premature Piglet Model to Assess the Nutritional Needs of the Human Neonate
"Without the extra push from the Honors program, I would have never been able to complete such an in-depth research project. I worked for over a year and a half on the project, and even though it wasn't really successful research, I feel that I've accomplished a great amount in doing the project."

Sarah Luthman, Spring 2007 Graduate, Agricultural Education
Project: Impact of Agricultural Literacy Efforts on Elementary Students’ Knowledge of Production Agriculture
"Completing my honors research opened my eyes to the research opportunities available in graduate school and persuaded me to apply following graduation."

Ryan Ceddia, Spring 2005 Graduate, Animal Sciences
Project: Sodium Dependent Vitamin C Transporters in the Sheep Corpus Luteum: Sequence Analysis
"My Honors Research Project helped me know that I enjoyed that kind of work [Genetics]. Because of that, I looked for graduate schools that had professors doing genetic research that was somewhat similar to what I had been doing."

Rebecca Johnson, Spring 2005 Graduate, Animal Sciences
Project: Myosin light chain-1 is associated with beef carcass tenderness
"I discovered that research was what I wanted to do for a career. I thought I was going to attend Vet School, but I soon learned that I was better suited for another career. I have since decided to attend graduate school to study in the same subject area where my honors [research] project focused."

Angela Kohut, Spring 2005 Graduate, Food Science
Project: Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Sphingomyelin in Whey Protein
"My honors [research] project made me aware of my capabilities. By talking to people in the department as well as people in industry, I realized I would be better prepared to find a job suited to my interests if I completed a Master's degree. Therefore, I decided to go to graduate school."
