Specializations

Community and extension education prepares you to lead learning partnerships that strengthen individuals, families and communities. You’ll build expertise in program planning, communication, human development, leadership, and non-formal education—then apply it through hands-on experiences connected to outreach and engagement. This specialization is ideal for students who enjoy working with people and want to make learning accessible beyond the classroom. Graduates pursue roles in Extension, youth development, nonprofits, community programs, and volunteer coordination. You’ll graduate ready to design programs, support volunteers and deliver education where it’s needed most.

Leadership specialization builds your capacity to embrace change and lead others in adapting, managing and directing change in an individual, organization or community context. You’ll develop skills in personal development, ethics, communication, and teamwork—plus the ability to manage and direct change in organizations and communities. Coursework emphasizes collaboration, decision-making, and leadership influence, with opportunities to apply what you learn in real settings. Graduates are prepared for leadership development, training, member services, nonprofit management and other people-centered careers where strong communication and adaptability matter.
