About this program

Animal Production and Management - Horse Specialization at Ohio State ATI prepares you for a career in the horse industry for breeding, stable management and other horse support industries. In this associate of applied science program, you’ll build science-based knowledge in horse care and production while developing the business skills needed to support successful equine enterprises. 

You’ll study the principles and best management practices behind horse management, including nutrition, reproduction, selection, welfare, health and daily care. You'll also strengthen your understanding of business considerations so you can make informed decisions. The program emphasizes practical learning at the Ohio State ATI Equine Center, where students gain experience working directly with horses and solving real-world challenges.

Build your skills with internships

Students in Animal Production and Management (AAS) - Horse Specialization gain experience through both practicum and internship learning. Practicum is required for all equine students and provides supervised, hands-on work experience at the Ohio State ATI horse facilities. In this setting, you’ll learn to think independently, evaluate problems and apply solutions while assisting with the daily husbandry and care of horses. 

Students in the program also complete a full-time industry internship. Internship opportunities can be round throughout the United States and abroad, helping to expand your experience and build professional connections before graduation.
