Turfgrass Management at Ohio State ATI prepares you for hands-on careers in the science and business of managing turf in commercial, residential and recreational settings. In this Associate of Applied Science program, you’ll build practical knowledge in turf care while also learning the planning and management skills needed to support successful operations. 

You’ll study the core science behind healthy turfgrass, including insect, disease and weed management. You’ll also explore the business side of the field through budgeting, planning and staff supervision. This program is a strong fit if you enjoy working outdoors, solving problems and helping maintain high-quality turf spaces.

Program components

Build your skills with internships

Students in the Turfgrass Management program must complete a 14-week internship of full-time employment at an approved turfgrass management facility. This experience helps students apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting and build industry connections before graduation. 

Students may also choose to participate in practicum, a supervised work experience on campus or at the campus-owned golf course. Practicum experiences may include equipment operation, irrigation, construction and maintenance. 

Learn in hands-on turf facilities

Students in this program gain experience with campus grounds, including sports fields, turfgrass plots and a model golf hole. The program also benefits from proximity to Secrest Arboretum, which includes more than 2,000 plant specimens.
