Peer Mentors
Lead. Support. Make a difference.
Peer Mentors play a powerful role in helping new students feel confident, connected and ready to succeed at Ohio State. As a mentor, you are one of the first faces new students will meet at CFAES. You help incoming students navigate campus, connect with faculty and staff, and find their place in our college community.
If you remember what it felt like to start college and want to make that transition easier for someone else, this role is for you.
What Peer Mentors do
Peer Mentors guide new students through their first semester by:
- Helping them navigate university resources and campus spaces
- Encouraging involvement in student organizations and activities
- Answering questions about classes and scheduling
- Serving as a positive role model and trusted connection
You’re not expected to have all the answers — you help students find the right ones.
Why become a Peer Mentor?
Serving as a Peer Mentor helps you:
- Strengthen leadership and communication skills
- Build meaningful connections with faculty, staff and students
- Gain experience that stands out on a resume
- Grow personally while helping others succeed
Many mentors say the experience shaped their own college journey just as much as it shaped their mentees.
What is the commitment?
To serve as a CFAES Peer Mentor, you will:
- complete a 7-week second session course during spring semester
- attend two half-day trainings
This preparation ensures you feel confident and supported before mentoring begins.
