Strengthen career readiness

Preparing students for success after graduation is a shared responsibility. As faculty and staff, you help students connect what they are learning to what employers expect.

The CFAES Career Development Office is here to support you with tools, programs and partnerships that strengthen career readiness across the college. Guided by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies, we help students recognize, build and articulate the skills that matter most in today’s workforce.

Explore the ways we can work together below.

Submit an Industry Interaction

Do you have a guest speaker from industry coming to your class? Tell Us About It!

Why Participate…

  • The CFAES Career Development Office would like to encourage you, thank you, and reward your academic unit for helping provide professional development learning moments for your students and for helping expand their network each and every time you bring an industry partner into your classroom.
  • Help contribute to a new scholarship for your academic unit to award.

Who Qualifies…

  1. Any CFAES instructor teaching CFAES courses.

Here’s what will happen…

  1. Before the Interaction
    1. You fill out this industry interaction form to let us know when and who you will be bringing into the classroom.
    2. Must be submitted at least a week before the interaction takes place.
  2. During the Interaction
    1. Sit back and relax as the Career Development Team pops in to capture key moments from the visit: photos, candid shots, short clips, or quotes.
  3. After the Interaction
    1. We will post a picture or video of the industry rep and thank them for giving their time and expertise to our students.
    2. We will tag your academic unit and the guest speaker if they have social media to help boost your and the company brand to all our students and followers.

How Does this Scholarship Work…

  • A $50 scholarship contribution will be added from Career Development for each completed and verified industry interaction from your academic unit.
  • These funds will be distributed to your academic unit at the end of each semester to award as a scholarship to one or more of your students at your unit’s discretion.

Because we are pretty sure you will ask…

  • $50 per industry interaction, not per person you interact with. A four-person panel in your class is one interaction, not four.
  • You are taking your class to visit three different companies at three different sites throughout the semester. You guessed it, that’s three different interactions, three different submissions and three different contributions to the scholarship.
  • The career development office may exert their discretion on what constitutes an interaction. If you are not sure, just ask.

Career readiness competencies

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines eight career readiness competencies that employers consistently identify as essential.
