Current Ohio State students who are in good academic standing and meet the eligibility requirements for their intended major may request a change - whether that is changing your major to a new one or asking to change requirements for a major or minor. Newly admitted students may also be eligible.

Schedule an appointment with a CFAES academic counselor. During your meeting, your advisor will review eligibility, timing, and next steps.
It depends on the timing of your change and the coursework you have already completed. Your academic counselor can help you understand how a major change may impact your graduation timeline.
Want to change requirements for a major or minor?
A petition is required when a student wishes to pursue an adjustment to a major or minor approved curriculum plan. Examples include:
- Applying unused credit toward a major or minor requirement.
- Application of Special (S000) credit to a major or minor requirement.
- Substitution or modification of a requirement within the standard major or minor requirements.
Schedule an appointment with your assigned major advisor for assistance completing the form. They must support and sign off on your rationale for altering standard requirements.
In addition, the curriculum chair or department chair for the major must approve the petition to change requirements for your major. The minor coordinator must approve the petition to change requirements for your minor. Your major advisor can provide direction to obtain these additional approvals.
Completed forms should be emailed to CFAES-Academics@osu.edu or dropped off at the front desk of the CFAES Academic Programs Office (Suite 100 in the Agricultural Administration Building). The review process can take up to 2 weeks, and decisions will be sent to your Ohio State email.
