Summer Research Opportunities Program

The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Ohio State helps undergraduate students see what’s possible in research, graduate school and academic careers. Over nine weeks in the summer, participants team up with a faculty mentor to work on a research project that matches their interests. Students also take part in workshops, seminars, and professional development events that help them grow as researchers and prepare for what comes next. At the end of the summer, they share their research at both a campus conference and a regional conference.

SROP is a collaboration across the Big Ten Academic Alliance, connecting students to a broader community of research and academic opportunity.

“I was able to challenge myself in a different environment, a different culture and on a different research experience.”

During summer 2024, Britney Solis (left) and Stephanie Pozuelos (right) worked together in Dr. Megan Meuti’s entomology lab, studying how light pollution affects reproduction in Culex pipiens mosquitoes. Their work involved rearing and dissecting hundreds of mosquitoes in the insectary. Both students found the program highly valuable, with Solis noting the strong support throughout the experience. Britney began her PhD in Entomology in 2025 with Dr. Meuti, while Stephanie started a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Ohio State the same year.
