CFAES Dean Bruce McPheron recently made the following two administrative announcements:
Greg Davis, interim OSU Extension director
As you know, Keith Smith will be retiring as director of OSU Extension effective June 30, 2015, and we have a search process underway to identify the next leader of our Extension organization. The committee is on target with its search with the hopes of bringing a finalist to campus in early fall.
I’m pleased to announce that I have asked Greg Davis to serve as the interim director, OSU Extension, beginning July 1, until we have filled the director position, and he has agreed to step into this role.
Greg’s successful tenure in OSU Extension, knowledge of current issues and active engagement in pursuing future opportunities allows him to assume this role and to continue supporting and leading the great work done across our state by Extension faculty, staff and volunteers. Greg currently serves as professor and assistant director, Community Development, where he has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field. In 2013, Greg was awarded the National Distinguished Service award from the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals. He has presented papers and spoken at professional conferences on the state, national and international levels and is a respected facilitator. Greg has been an active member of the Vice President’s Conversation on the Future of Extension leadership team and will continue his role on the search committee for the next director of OSU Extension.
In the coming weeks, I will share additional information regarding leadership support in the OSU Extension Community Development program area while Greg serves in this interim role. He will begin the process of transition with Dr. Smith immediately to ensure we don’t lose a step in the vitality of our programs. Please join me in congratulating Greg and supporting him in his new leadership opportunity.
Graham Cochran, interim ACEL chair
As Gary Straquadine prepares for his transition to Utah State and we prepare for a national search to identify the next chair of the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership, it is important that we continue the positive impact of the department’s teaching, research and outreach efforts.
I’m pleased to share with you that Graham Cochran has accepted my offer to serve as interim department chair of ACEL, effective July 1 and pending approval of the Board of Trustees. He will begin working immediately with Dr. Straquadine to ensure a smooth transition.
As you know, Graham has served as an associate professor since 2011 with appointments in ACEL and the Department of Extension. Graham began his career at Ohio State in 1996 as a county director and Extension educator in Sandusky County. Since that initial appointment, he has accepted increasing responsibilities, including center director at Adventure Central in Dayton and in the OSU Extension Human Resources unit. Graham’s scholarship has focused on organizational and workforce development, including a leadership role with the development of an online master’s degree program. Graham’s work in organizational and workforce development provided the type of experience necessary for him to successfully co-lead the Vice President’s Conversation on the Future of Extension.
In the coming weeks and months we will have additional conversations on the future leadership of the department and the process we’ll use to seek out and identify the next leader.
Please join me in congratulating Graham and supporting him in his new leadership opportunity.
