A graduate of Iowa State University in 1998 with a Ph.D. in sociology, Sharp has been serving as SENR’s interim director since July 2013. He came to Ohio State in 1998 as an assistant professor in the former Department of Human and Community Resource Development (now Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership). Since then, he has served in a number of different capacities, including as SENR Extension Administrative team leader.
As a faculty member, Sharp has focused his scholarship in the areas of sociology of agriculture and food systems, community sociology, sociology of natural resources, and the rural-urban interface. He has a distinguished research record, having been a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on more than 12 major projects. He is well-respected in his discipline and is often called upon to speak on rural-urban interface issues, among other community-based topics. Throughout his career, he has maintained a strong publication record and is very active with his Extension portfolio responsibilities. Please join us in congratulating him on his new appointment.
