Dreams a reality with 4-H

Kevin O’Reilly has experimented with a variety of projects as a 4-H member in Geauga County, Ohio. They ranged from showing lambs and dairy cattle at his county fair to completing projects on veterinary science, woodworking, photography, and gardening.

O’Reilly also developed important leadership skills through the many camps he attended as a camper and counselor. “Most importantly, 4-H taught me to be kind and compassionate to others, and to share my knowledge with other people,” said O’Reilly.

His 4-H experiences encouraged him to pursue a degree in animal sciences at Ohio State. As a student, he continued his 4-H involvement by joining Collegiate 4-H. After graduation, he used his degree to achieve his dream job of becoming a farmer.

Today, O’Reilly recognizes the value of being a part of 4-H. He and his wife pride themselves on raising a new generation of passionate 4-Her’s: “My advice is always to take advantage of every opportunity 4-H offers, whether it be at the local, state, national, or even international level.”
