Tip 1: Chocolate: Columnist Dave Barry once wrote, “Your hand and your mouth agreed many years ago that, as far as chocolate is concerned, there is no need to involve your brain.” Mary Kay Pohlschneider would disagree. She teaches a Chocolate Science class in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) and can discuss the history of chocolate, its health benefits, how it’s processed and what you should look for in a chocolate to please your Valentine. Contact her at pohlschneider.1@osu.edu or 614-292-3867. She is busy teaching classes in Food Science and Technology, so leave her a message and she will get back to you.
Tip 2: Olympic Illnesses: While Pyeongchang Olympic officials scramble to manage events among high winds and bitter cold, they also are working to keep athletes safe from norovirus, a common and highly contagious illness that causes diarrhea and vomiting. The Los Angeles Times reports today that 194 people have been diagnosed with the illness, but none are athletes. Qiuhong Wang, a CFAES researcher based in Wooster in the Food Animal Health Research Program, is an expert on noroviruses and can be reached at wang.655@osu.edu or 330-263-3960.
