Northwest Ohio Corn-Soybean Day Is Jan. 22

ARCHBOLD, Ohio – Tips on effective management practices for the 2016 crop production season, including how to manage soybean cyst nematode and how to improve yields with nitrogen timing, will be discussed during the annual Northwest Ohio Corn-Soybean Day Jan. 22.

Offered by Ohio State University Extension, the daylong event will feature multiple farm management presentations as well as some 30 exhibitors from seed and input suppliers, banking, crop insurance, grain marketing, and the farm machinery industry, said Eric Richer, an OSU Extension educator. OSU Extension is the outreach arm of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University.

The event is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Founder’s Hall at Sauder Village, 22611 State Route 2, in Archbold, Ohio.

The workshop is presented by OSU Extension educators and specialists, as well as agriculture industry professionals. Topics include:

  • Managing Soybean Cyst Nematode in Ohio.
  • Water Quality and Phosphorus Management.
  • New Herbicide-Tolerant Traits and Weeds Update.
  • Nutrient Management for Forage and Pasture.
  • Improving Yield and Water Quality with Nitrogen Timing.

Attending the Corn-Soybean Day will fulfill the three-hour requirement for private pesticide applicator recertification and the two-hour Ohio Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Training (FACT) program required for those with a pesticide license, Richer said.

“Commercial Ohio applicators can get three hours of pesticide credits, including core, 2A, 2C and 2D,” he said.

Three hours of Michigan pesticide recertification credits and four hours of Certified Crop Adviser continuing education credits will also be available, Richer said. From 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. there will be sessions to fulfill core and fumigation (category 6) for pesticide applicators, he said.

Registration for the day is $35 by Jan. 13 and $60 at the door on a limited basis, Richer said. The cost includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch.
