COLUMBUS, Ohio — For Morgan Meyer, a 2024 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), one decision helped shape her experience as a student: saying yes to opportunities.
That mindset led her to get involved, build relationships and explore the agricultural industry in ways that extended beyond the classroom. It also helped set the foundation for her career as a financial relationship coordinator with Farm Credit Mid-America.
“I’m not sure one single experience had the biggest impact on my career path,” Meyer said. “But the collective experiences between all of the student organizations did.”
Meyer, from Anna, Ohio, earned a degree in agribusiness and applied economics with a minor in agricultural communication.
As a student, she sought out opportunities to grow through student organizations, conferences and industry connections. She participated in programs such as Ohio Farm Bureau’s Young Agricultural Professionals and Agriculture Future of America, connected with industry speakers, and helped host campus events and fundraisers.
“Through each opportunity, I further developed characteristics and strengthened my skill set to use each day to the fullest as I continue my career journey,” Meyer said.
Those experiences also helped her build relationships that shaped her future.
Through student organizations and the CFAES Career Fair, Meyer connected with alumni and industry professionals who offered insight into the wide range of career opportunities available in agriculture. Those connections led to an internship with Farm Credit Mid-America, which later became a full-time position.
Now working in the agricultural industry, Meyer continues to stay connected to CFAES, recognizing the value of relationships beyond graduation.
“It is important to remain engaged because it continually provides further opportunities for you to take part in,” Meyer said. “Every opportunity helps you grow and allows you to expand into different areas of your field and learn more about others as well.”
Meyer remains actively involved in the college by serving as the 2024 Academic Year Representative on the CFAES Alumni Society Board of Directors, helping create opportunities for students and alumni to connect.
As she recently shared while speaking at the CFAES Graduating Student Celebration, the relationships built during college can have a lasting impact.
“Some of the most impactful moments came from the relationships I built, especially with alumni who were willing to share their time, advice and encouragement,” Meyer said.
The message Meyer now shares is simple: Take advantage of every opportunity and stay connected.
“You never know what alumni you meet will have the next opportunity for you, so go to the events and build the relationships,” she said.
For Meyer, saying yes to opportunities did more than shape her college experience. It launched her career and continues to guide how she gives back to the CFAES community.
