Carbon offsets, the quality challenges and the response under development at the University of California

This talk, co-hosted by the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, the Ohio State Sustainability Institute and the CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration, will discuss the evolution of the carbon offset market and the nature of the persistent quality challenges. The second half will discuss the potential role of universities and colleges in guiding the offset market through research-based procurement.

Facilitator Dr. Barbara Haya, Director of the Berkeley Carbon Trading Project in the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, will discuss the University of California’s developing offset procurement program, involving research into the quality of offset project types and projects and the development of university-initiated offset projects. There will be plenty of time for discussion.
