This field day will cover topics related to in-field and edge-of-field conservation practices, such as two-stage ditch construction and use, cover crops, and the use of Phosphorus filters to manage excess soil P. Our keynote speaker will be Kevin King, USDA-ARS Research Lead and Agricultural Engineer, discussing water management and in-field practice research results. Four breakout sessions will allow for smaller group conversation.

BREAKOUT SESSION ONE
This session will focus on cropping system practices, including the incorporation of cover crops and perennial crops. Farmer Advocates from The Nature Conservancy will be present to answer questions surrounding the use of cover crops.

BREAKOUT SESSION TWO
This session will discuss soil conditions and management, including soil sampling recommendations for high P fields and a rainfall simulator demonstration.

BREAKOUT SESSION THREE
Ditch design will be the topic of this session. USDA-ARS projects regarding two-stage ditches will be discussed, as well as potential funding opportunities for this practice. Education about how practices impact the areas downstream.

BREAKOUT SESSION FOUR
The Phosphorus filter at this site will be the focus of this session. An informal discussion about the considerations and benefits of P filters, as well as information about the research being done on this practice will be discussed.
