Living the Small Farm Dream: 2018 Northeast Ohio Small Farm Conference and Trade Show
From growing malting barley for craft beer brewers to managing a thriving pasture poultry farm, the Ohio Small Farm Conference and Trade Show offers educational sessions and vendors for agricultural activities.
This year’s conference sponsored by Ohio State University (OSU) Extension is entitled, “Living the Small Farm Dream” and will be held on April 7 in Massillon at the R.G. Drage Career Technical Center, 2800 Richville Drive, SW. Registration for the conference is open and available at go.osu.edu/NEOHSmallFarms.
“With 26 different educational sessions, the conference offers something for those just starting a farm and seasoned farmers looking for new ideas and farm management options,” said Rory Lewandowski, OSU Extension Educator in Wayne County and co-organizer of the conference. Lewandowski said the conference added a two-hour super session on agritourism for farmers looking to diversify their farms that will be held at a nearby Nickajack Farms. The conference sessions are divided into five subject matter tracks: Farm Management, Horticulture, Livestock, Marketing, and Specialty Crops. A discounted registration price is available for those attending the East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference on April 6 at the same location, according to Emily Adams, OSU Extension Educator in Coshocton County and co-organizer of the conference. “Women attending the April 6 conference will have an opportunity to explore 16 breakout session focusing on business and finance, plants and animals, communication, home and family, and special interest,” she said. “Both conferences are a great way to network with other farmers and identify areas for opportunity and growth.”
The cost of the Small Farm Conference and Trade Show is $60 for adults and $30 for students. The fee includes access to all the sessions, the trade show, and lunch. Those also attending the Women in Agriculture conference can attend both for a discounted rate of $100 for adults and $50 for students. Registration is available at go.osu.edu/NEOHSmallFarms.
