“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” -Peter Drucker

Are you a leader, manager, or both? How do you balance these different styles and skills? To be successful in either, or a mixture, of these roles, you must be able to adapt to the situation, various team members, or an event. In order to do this, you must first know and understand what your preferred leadership style is.

Manager and leader are two different roles, and as a supervisor, you will have to be successful at doing both. You will have to go between, or find a happy medium, between being innovative or an administrator, people or work focused, and fixed or flexible.

There comes a point when you must ask yourself, are you selling or telling the plan for your business? How can your style and strengths play to your advantage? The answer will vary based on your leadership style leanings; visionary, coaching, affiliative, democratic, commanding, or pacesetting.

The ultimate common goal is to achieve organizational goals and to develop your employees.

  • Learn the six leadership styles
  • Determine which is your preferred style
  • Develop strategies for utilizing each style
