  2. Professor Explores Domestic Source of Rubber

    Katrina Cornish, a researcher with The Ohio State University, is exploring domestic sources of rubber, to be used for everything from tires to boots to gloves.  The domestic sources include Buckeye Gold, a relative of the common dandelion, and guayule, a shrub native to the southwestern United States. Cornish works for the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, the research arm of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

    Young people across the United States participated in the Eco-Bot challenge, a simulated toxic spill. The national project was developed by Ohio State University Extension, an arm of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

  7. Students Build Grain Safety C.A.R.T.

    Five Ohio State University students in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering and their advisors have designed and built a Community Agriculture Rescue Trailer, or C.A.R.T., that includes all the equipment needed for grain storage rescue training in one mobile unit.

    In an Ohio State study, eating one apple a day for just four weeks lowered blood levels of a substance linked to hardening of the arteries. The amount of the decrease -- 40 percent -- surprised lead researcher Robert DiSilvestro, a professor of human nutrition and scientist with the university's Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center.

    Dan Wampler, President and Founder of Sensus, donated $1.2 million to the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences to establish the Lisa and Dan Wampler Endowed Fellowship for Food and Health Research. Dan explains why he made this generous gift.

  10. Urban Farm Creates Jobs

    Stanard Farm is an urban farm developed on the site of the former Stanard Elementary School at E.53rd and Stanard Street in Cleveland. The farm was created in collaboration with OSU Extension, the St. ClairSuperior Development Corporation, Councilman Joe Cimperman and the city of Cleveland.
