For students dreaming of a career in agriculture, environmental science or related fields — but unsure how to afford college — Ohio State ATI, on the CFAES Wooster campus, is opening the door wider than ever.

Starting in autumn 2026, eligible students can attend ATI tuition-free through Ohio State’s new Regional Campus Commitment. This initiative covers full tuition and mandatory fees for Ohio residents with a family adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less.

It’s a game-changer for students looking to begin their college journey affordably and locally — while still gaining access to one of the nation’s top agricultural colleges.

“ATI has always been an affordable path to an Ohio State education, and the Regional Campus Commitment makes it even more accessible,” said Jon Witter, associate professor and ATI interim assistant dean and director. “With open enrollment, all Ohio high school graduates are welcome here, and many choose ATI for its small campus feel paired with the resources of a major public university.”

ATI is the associate degree-granting unit of CFAES. Students can complete a two-year degree in fields like agribusiness, animal sciences, horticulture, environmental science or power and equipment — and then seamlessly transition to Ohio State’s Columbus campus to complete a bachelor’s degree through CFAES.

ATI is deeply committed to supporting students from all backgrounds.

“We have a long history of supporting students that are first-generation, low-income or have disabilities through our Buckeye Excel program, which enhances retention and degree completion,” Witter said. “Roughly half of our students seek employment following graduation while the rest continue their education seamlessly on the Columbus campus.”

For families concerned about the rising cost of college or the feasibility of a traditional four-year path, ATI presents a practical, flexible alternative.

“A two-year program at Ohio State ATI, when paired with College Credit Plus or the Regional Campus Commitment, offers efficient options for students who think a four-year degree is out of reach or doesn’t align with their goals,” Witter said. “Students can complete their associate degree at ATI and then go on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Columbus.”

“It’s a direct path to becoming a Buckeye.”
