How to fight hunger in Malawi? 4-H’er’s ‘amazing accomplishment’

Kira Barr, a 4-H member and a Borlaug Scholar from Ohio 4-H’s Ohio Youth Institute, recently had a paper she wrote for the institute published in the peer-reviewed African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development. Read the article, called “Malawi: Boosting Sustainable Nutritional Intake through Native Tree Reforestation,” here.

Sally McClaskey, Ohio 4-H’s education and marketing program manager, called it an “amazing accomplishment” for a high school student.

Barr is a student at Olentangy High School in Delaware County. Through her participation in the Ohio Youth Institute, she was chosen to be a delegate to the Global Youth Institute at the World Food Prize symposium in Iowa, where, among other things, she was able to meet Joyce Banda, former president of Malawi.
