Biography:
Leah joined AEDE as an assistant professor in the fall of 2016, after completing her PhD at Cornell University in agricultural economics.
Leah's research focuses on linkages between human welfare and biophysical systems in poor countries, a subject at the nexus of development and resource economics. A few of her papers focus on soil degradation, farmer management strategies and farm productivity in rural Uganda. One new paper examines soil fertility, climate shocks and farmer perceptions of soil quality. She is also investigating linkages between soil minerals, crop mineral content and human health in both Uganda and Ethiopia. A separate strand of her research examines intergenerational income and human capital transmission --- in particular the role of maternal education and maternal health on later life child outcomes.
